Why did you choose Fitness Together over all the other personal trainers out there?

I chose FT-Natomas because I was ready to make a change in my life. I had seen the studio and was curious what it was all about. I knew that I didnʼt want to join just a regular gym because of how intimidating they are. I needed to be somewhere that I would be held accountable and would feel comfortable. That first day I met with you and Wes I just knew that I was in the right place!

What do you feel has contributed to your tremendous results and success here at Fitness Together?

I believe that there are a lot of things that have contributed to my success. I have been able to remain focused on my goal the entire time. I think it is because I have been consistent in my training. Never missing a day. Seeing results so quickly made it easy to stay motivated. Steve has helped in my success by making it fun, making me feel I can do anything and by changing things up. I never get bored. Steve is great to work with and is so knowledgeable. He is always encouraging me and pushing me harder. I am doing things I never imagined I could do. Also, following the nutrition has helped me change my eating habits. You guys being there for me has helped so much.

What has been your most pleasant surprise by working out at Fitness Together?

The most pleasant surprises from my experience at FT-Natomas is how fun and easy it has been and how it has changed my life. I knew I needed a change but for it to actually happen is surprising. I am a happier more confident person!

What would you tell someone who might be in the same health predicament you were in when you first became a client here at Fitness Together?

I would tell someone that might be in the same position I was healthwise that they have nothing to lose and a happier life to gain. Believe in yourself. They should just make the commitment to themselves and never give up. They will feel so great and be so happy they did.

Has it been difficult staying focused and motivated on your training program as you strive toward your overall goals?

It has not been difficult at all staying focused and motivated. I can't believe that I have come this far already. I don't know what I'm going to do when I am finished with my time there. I love it so much. I do know that I will continue to train and keep getting better and better. Hehe!

I started training at Fitness Together twice a week soon after giving birth to twins. Not only was I out of shape from the pregnancy, but I had also been restricted from exercising during my entire pregnancy. Needless to say, the trainers had their work cut out for them! My trainers took care with my return to exercising until I felt back to my pre-pregnancy energy level. Within just 5 weeks, I had reached my goal and was back to my pre-pregnancy size. Nevertheless, I continue going to Fitness Together for workouts that are beyond what I would get at a traditional gym. What good is spending all that money on a photographer if I won't want to even look at myself in pictures? That's the question that brought me to Fitness Together. The breaking point for me was when I turned 36 years old. I was the heaviest that I had ever been. I was engaged two years ago, it didn’t work and it was a very difficult time for me. After years of attending the gym and hardly raising a sweat, I started with a Fitness Together trainer on a path of exercise sessions originally designed to ward off those flabby underarms. Introducing me to boxing was a revelation because although I don't like the sport itself, I absolutely love boxing - and while not at all aggressive, the exercises are great for overall fitness and toning.

It's easy to fall off the wagon occasionally but with personal training it's a commitment that ensures I keep going week after week, month after month. I would like to tell you how pleased I am with the results of my training at Fitness Together, Natomas. I used to weigh 205 pounds and now weigh 147. I have gone from a size 20 to a size 10 and have lowered my cholesterol by 30 points - without medication. Not only have I lost weight, but I feel great and have so much more energy than I used to. Having lived my entire life without ever stepping foot in a gym, I was shocked into action when I realized I had slowly gained more than 30 pounds in two years. At 5' 3" and 155 pounds, I felt sluggish and unattractive. Worse, I had no idea what to do about it. I had always been naturally slender and paid little attention to what I ate. I had no experience dieting or exercising. Fitness Together provided me with an opportunity to lose weight and, more importantly, to learn how to get and STAY fit.

In just four months, I went from 155 pounds and 36% body fat to 135 pounds and 28% body fat. I lost several inches in all the right places and gained some definition from increased muscle in my legs. Before my time at Fitness Together, I wouldn't be caught dead in a sleeveless top; now I am proud to show off my newly toned arms. Most importantly, I now know how to eat properly, how to work out, and how to get results.

I chalk up my success to my own determination, practical nutritional advice, and my excellent personal trainer, Steve Castenada. Steve was always prepared for our sessions, always encouraging, and always challenging. He has instilled in me a confidence I have never had, and I will never again feel powerless to control the way my body looks and feels.

I began working out at Fitness Together in January of 2005 determined to stick to my New Year's resolution. I was sick of being overweight and needed to make a change. I was hoping that having a personal trainer along with joining Weight Watchers would get me started in the right direction.

It is now 16 months later and I have lost 130 pounds. The physical and mental transformation has been amazing. Working out for me always felt like a chore and not something enjoyable. The trainers at Fitness Together (especially Lisa Wrightsman) have definitely changed my outlook. They create tough workouts but keep everything fun at the same time. After getting up the nerve to enter the makeover contest, I began to get excited at the possibilities. I made a commitment to myself to give it my all. When I learned I had been chosen as one of the top five, I screamed so loud my kids heard me while riding the swings at Marine World.

After turning 40, going back to work, getting braces, separating from my husband and stopping my gym membership, I had let myself get fat. I did not enjoy going shopping for clothes because sometimes even the 14’s would not fit. I would tell myself, I will start tomorrow and eat better, but tomorrow turned into another tomorrow and then a week and then a month. I would set deadlines but they would come and quickly pass. I was in a rut of self-destructive behavior and did not know how to change. I did not think I had it in me to transform my life, but I found out I really did. I was nervous, ashamed, and excited to begin a fitness regime and to radically alter my diet.

I met with Mel Martin of Fitness Together. We discussed my sporadic workout schedule and my eating habits. We talked about my fitness goals related to skiing and ski patrol this coming season, as well as some general goals of losing weight and getting back into shape. I wanted to be stronger, leaner, more agile and more confident. Mel encouraged me to be very specific about my goals, so they can be measured and then attained. I was also ready to change the way I thought about food. I rewarded myself for most milestones and accomplishments with food. Even growing up, food was much more than fuel for the body. It was celebration, reward, pleasure. Food is our body’s only fuel. We must put in high quality fuel to keep the body working at its best. It would be easier if we did not have taste buds. To this end I have been experimenting with different spices and herbs to add flavor to healthy foods.

The personal attention I received at Fitness Together was unlike any other training facility experience. The one on one focus of the trainer, the individualize exercise plan and the motivational encouraging attitude of the trainer transformed a static weightlifting session into a functional, interactive, dynamic and incredibly challenging 45 minute appointment. I was using muscles I did not know I had. As my fitness level improved the training session evolved as well. The trainers had new ways of doing almost every exercise. I could ask questions during the session about the function of a specific muscle group, other ways to do the exercise with a different weight or at home or on another piece of equipment.

I am very proud of the results I have achieved in 12 weeks. I feel confident. Even with braces, I smile more. I like to try on clothes again. I feel attractive. I feel sexy. And that feels wonderful. I like to look at myself in the mirror from all angles. I project a positive self image and I feel great. I see shapely shoulders with definition. My stomach no longer has the pooch from having two kids. My thighs do not rub together. My upper arms don’t jiggle anymore. My rear is tighter and smaller. I am thankful for the encouragement, great personal training and the healthy nutritional advice I received from Fitness Together.

Have you ever achieved your goal weight only to watch it slip away pound by pound? That is exactly what happened to me. When I decide to lose the weight the first time I weighed 186 pounds, my body fat was 30.8% and I am only 5’2”, you got it short and fat.

My transformation goal weight was 135 pounds. I got to my goal weight with hard work and determination in 36 weeks, using good nutrition and exercise. It was a great achievement; I stayed at my goal weight for a year and a half. Then life got very stressful, more than normal with some family matters. I slowly started to gain my weight back. Like all of us, I was sure that this would never happen to me because I worked so hard to succeed.

Three years later, I was so stuck both mentally and physically and I knew I needed help. I had the burning desire once again to get my body back into awesome shape. I went to see Mel Martin at Elk Grove Fitness Together for some personal training advice. I showed him my photos of when I was at my goal weight. I asked him if he thought I could get my body back to that shape and weight. He said, “Without a doubt!” Oh, did I mention that I had gained back every pound!

It has been sixteen weeks now at Elk Grove Fitness Together and I have already lost 25 pounds and 10% body fat loss. I have another 25 pounds to go to get to my goal weight of 135. Mel and the staff at Elk Grove Fitness Together are really great to work with. Mel wrote my Nutritional Plan plus every workout is a challenge with great new moves and awesome results. I just could not be more pleased.

I want to thank Mel and the team at Fitness Together for providing a facility I could use to change my life. Just 4 months ago I was depressed and frustrated. Over the past 6 years, I’d let myself go and put on about 10 pounds a year. I started having more and more health problems and was put on several different medications by my physician. September my son got married and I had hit rock bottom. Unable to dance and participate as much as I would have liked, I found it hard to breath and had a headache. The worst was when I saw pictures of myself, and realized I had to do something to get control of my life and get back to the health I have enjoyed most of my life.

I have tried regular gyms in the past and found it difficult to keep focused on my exercise goals, when I had to wait for equipment or try to go at odd hours to avoid a crowd. I am a busy lady and have limited time to squeeze exercise into my schedule. I have also tried personal trainers at the large gyms and still had little success at keeping on track.

The week after his wedding, I began a search for a way to get back into shape. I found Mel at Fitness Together; the gym is 1 block from by office. After talking to Mel and seeing the gym, I signed up and started going 3 times a week, on my lunch hour. I found the trainers there to be very knowledgeable and great motivation; they are focused on my success. When I asked questions about nutrition and what a good meal plan would be, they were very helpful. I have followed everything they have challenged me to do, and it has worked. To date, I have lost 42 lbs and gone from a size 20 to a 12. I still have about 20 lbs to go. I do cardio at home 6 days a week and have followed a meal plan they gave me that allows me a “cheat” day every week.

Most of my friends can not believe the transformation, in such a short period of time. I feel great. In fact, I have gone dancing and kicking up my heels with my friends several times. My physician has reduced the number of my medications. And I feel alive again. I enjoy the time I spend exercising and plan to continue with the gym after my goals are reached.

I forgot how good it felt to be healthy. I came to Fitness Together hoping to get some help, some support and some accountability when it came to working out. I got much more! After a tough pregnancy, most of which was spent in bed in the hospital, I felt big and out of shape. I would become winded walking up my stairs. I wanted to get back into shape, but I didn’t know where to start. I remember the day I drove by Fitness Together; I wrote the number down and called from my cell phone. I spoke with Mel and began to get excited about the possibility of feeling good about myself again!

My family noticed a difference right away. I became motivated to get in shape. I actually looked forward to going to the gym. My attitude poured into my business as well. I have become more productive and much more fun to be around. Being a mother with 2 children, a husband on the go and 2 businesses to run, life gets hectic. I had just been letting my normal daily activities and my metabolism, regulate my weight and fitness level, never realizing that I had put on over 35 pounds. I am back, did you miss me? When I first walked into Fitness Together 16 weeks ago, I was full of self doubt and had no confidence in my ability to exercise and stick to a fitness program. My initial consultation with Mel Martin helped alleviate my fears and after learning that a program would be designed specifically for me by a fitness professional, I decided to give it a try.

As a result of that decision and lots of hard work, I have lost 35 pounds, dropped 5% body fat and gained the confidence I needed to realize that I can do this for myself!

I’ve struggled with my weight and body image for years, and after having three children and gaining over 50 lbs with each, I became very frustrated with yo-yoing between diets. I needed to do something to be healthy and to be a positive image for my children and my husband.

That something turned out to be a personalized training program at Fitness Together. I came in for a free session and I knew it would work for me.

Mel and all of the personal trainers at FT have been very knowledgeable and professional, yet fun to train with.

The hardest part of exercise is showing up, but having an appointment helps keep me accountable. Once I’m there I get the guidance, encouragement, enthusiasm, and results that make me want to keep working hard.

I’m five months into my lifestyle change and I’ve lost 23 lbs and 3 dress sizes. I’ve gained energy, self confidence, agility and strength. I am well on my way to achieving my fitness goals.

Joining Fitness Together has been one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself, and I actually enjoy exercising now.

I want to thank you and all the gang for a job well done. When I came to Fitness Together I was a tired, out of shape, over weight, forty year old Mom. I had been successfully involved in a weight loss program for two years, but seemed to be in a holding pattern. It wasn’t really about the numbers on the scale, I just wasn’t feeling energized. I had a bad knee that wasn’t improving and an ache or a pain in everything I did.

I knew that exercise was lacking in my life but didn’t know where to start. I had an extremely busy work schedule, two active kids and no motivation to make it all work. I looked into a gym and a few other programs, but my instincts told me that I would sign a contract and then not continue. The typical gym membership lament!

I needed a severe jump start and continued motivation. I received that and more! I began almost immediately seeing a change in my energy level. The results have been earth shattering for me. In the first eight weeks I saw a loss of 1 to 1.5 inches and a decrease in my body fat by 5%! More important than the numbers, has been the lack of aches and pains. My mobility and strength have vastly improved and the kid can’t believe I’m the same Mom.

I’m not the same. My health and live motivation have certainly changed. I know I still have a long way to go, but at least I’m headed on the right road and I’ll never get stuck in that rut again. Thanks once more to you and your team for their never ending enthusiasm and support. They make being healthy an enjoyable necessity!

As a result of my workouts at Fitness Together, my balance, flexibility, core conditioning and overall strength have improved. Those elements of fitness not only make me feel better, but have a positive impact on my golf game, which has been a very pleasant surprise. Mel Martin developed a golf specific exercise program for me that focused on strength and flexibility. In addition I had some lower back pains that I was concerned with. I saw major improvements in my strength and flexibility after only three months of training. I am feeling great and my lower back pains are gone.

I have always exercised by myself and never with a personal trainer. The one on one training that I get at Fitness Together enabled me to reach my exercise goals in a short period of time.

It's not so much that I hate to exercise, it's just that I lack motivation in that particular area. I'm a busy mom with two young children, and between the family, errands, housework, and my home-based business, if I ran out of time to do something, exercise would get crossed off the list - and it was crossed off A LOT! I had tried working out at home and working out at tradition gyms, but I hadn't found anything I could stick with for any length of time. Then I found Fitness Together.

I love the idea that I have a dedicated workout partner (my trainer!). Given my lack of motivation, I always found exercising with a buddy was a lot more fun, and now I always have someone with me when I work out! And my trainer knows how to make the most of my workouts. My workouts seem so much more effective now. I have seen real results, which give me the enthusiasm and encouragement to keep up with it!

Not only do my clothes look and fit better, but I feel so much better! I have a lot more energy throughout the day, and I've found even my moods are better since working out. I'm sleeping better at night, and getting more accomplished during the day. The positive effects of what I'm doing and how I'm feeling is starting to cause positive changes outside of my workouts. I now think about what I'm eating, and do I really need what I'm about to consume. I've started doing a little more cardio work outside of my appointments. In fact, just recently, I was out of town attending a conference and found myself waking up at 6 a.m. to go to the gym to work out before sitting all day! And if that's not a major accomplishment in itself, I don't know what is!

I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in August, 2006. What a shock! They wanted me to go on medication, but I was determined to correct my blood sugar level naturally. Even my doctor was impressed. The year 2006 has been a metamorphosis into a whole new life for me, and Fitness Together has played a big part in the transformation. I’ve lost 75 pounds, 45 inches, gone from size 1X to a 6! It’s been a thrill to buy a whole new wardrobe, and people say I look twenty years younger. I certainly feel it.

That’s the important part: feeling so much younger, fitter, and so much more energetic. I’ve not been in this good a shape since my twenties, and I love it. My new fitness shows up not only in a radically improved appearance, but in all aspects of my daily life: I run up and down stairs and never get winded, lift multiple grocery sacks I couldn’t attempt before, put in a full day’s work and not be tired. I’ve been an inspiration to a number of other women, and I’m glad of it. I’d like everyone to feel as good about themselves as I do.

Dave, Fitness Together owner/manager, and Ed Gill, my trainer, and the whole Natomas crew have all been terrific and supportive throughout. I never would have come this far had it not been for their expertise, encouragement, and their constant excitement for me at my continued successes. Having them as a cheering section – they, who understand how much effort and determination it’s taken, has made such a difference!

Moreover, Fitness Together provides the perfect environment. Working with one trainer, and in one room where you and you alone are the focus, where all equipment is yours for that 45 minutes, allows you to concentrate entirely on your workout. There are no observers, no other distractions, no waiting for machines or weights, and no indecision about what to do next. You’re guided by someone who knows you, who knows what you personally need to achieve the perfect workout, and just how far to push/encourage you!

I confess I’m now a workout addict, and I couldn’t recommend these folks more highly.
